Long Lake Part II

Henry's cousin Jackson arrived (with his parents, of course) on Sunday. He is 10 months older than Henry and they are both enjoying having a buddy to play with. Of course, Jack is older and can do more stuff, but they've been having a great time. Sadly, it's been cold and rainy for the last two days. Yesterday, we were playing in the (significant) puddles, since there wasn't much else to do. It was a lot of fun, until Henry did a belly flop and got soaked with the cold water. Oh well. The boys are also loving Grandpa's guitar and Jack is so excited to be able to jump from one sport to the next (weather permitting): tee-ball, tennis, soccer, football, swimming, running, riding a bike... you name it. Good times.

Long Lake Part I

After 10 hours, many breaks, and half of an audiobook, Henry and I finally made it to Ann Arbor on Friday. We rested, visited the Pannings briefly, and then crashed for the night. Saturday (today), we got up, repacked, and headed off on the rest of our trip. This time, my mom came in the car with us so we could keep Henry amused and occupied the whole way (no extra stops needed!). And so here we are, at Long Lake. I haven't spent a whole week here in many years, but my family has been vacationing in this spot for over 25 years. Needless to say, I have a lot of happy memories of family, summer, and fun here and I'm excited to share it now with Henry.

Whew! It's a good thing we were able to do so much in one afternoon, because it looks like we may have bit of rain this week. Bummer. But we'll still have fun! I would post a video, but I have use the internet on someone's back porch, where I'm getting eaten by mosquitoes. And it's kind of chilly. And it's raining (but not on me). So maybe some other time.

Updates

It’s been awhile, I know. Life at the Pannings’ house has been busy in an everyday sort of way. Henry is busy growing and learning new things constantly. He is walking (of course, he has been for nearly two months now!), climbing, talking, and getting cuter by the day. He doesn’t have a huge vocabulary (at least not in English), but his list of words is growing. If we have to pick an official first word, I think it has to be Daddy. Not Da-da or anything, a very clear Daddy. He also says cup, yeah, wow, and hey (while waving!). He also makes a vroom noise while playing with cars and might be learning high fives (but that’s pretty early and I’m not sure if it has stuck yet).

Matt has been busy with his most recent launch. The preparation for these things is somewhat intense, as is the time immediately surrounding the launch (which was a week ago). Matt has taken on a higher position with this particular launch, so he has been working hard to make sure everything is going well. If you haven’t done so in awhile, you should ask him about what he does. Pretty neat stuff.

And I chase the munchkin. It’s getting to be pretty hot in Virginia, so we have been doing less walking outside. However, Henry and I can’t stand to be cooped up all day. This means that if we have no other plans, you’ll often find us browsing through Target or Harris Teeter or some other store just to stay busy. I like Harris Teeter (a grocery store) because they have little “customer in training” carts for Henry to push around, but he finds it easier to walk without the cart, so he often abandons it. Oh well… it’s still pretty cute.

We also enjoyed a visit from Matt’s parents a couple of weeks ago. We were able to do quite a bit in the time that they were here, including visiting D.C., the National Zoo, and several of the area’s other points of interest. It was fun to see Henry really getting to connect more with his grandparents (especially when we let them babysit!), which is so hard to do when we’re far away.

Yesterday, Henry and I drove from Virginia to Michigan to go on vacation with my family. We were very sad to leave Matt behind, but he really couldn’t leave right now with the satellite up there needing his attention. Maybe we’ll get to take a vacation together when things settle down at work. In the meantime, though, look for a few extra posts this week with vacation updates!
