Christmas in Virginia

We had a lovely time visiting with family (and a few friends) in Michigan, but were happy to be home for Christmas.  Thanks to everyone who helped to overwhelm our small tree with pretty packages!

We opened stockings in the morning, ate a small breakfast, then went to Mass.  Everyone around here goes to Mass on Christmas Eve, so the morning Mass was pleasantly uncrowded.  Another plus?  The majority of our Christmas morning photos were not taken with us in our pajamas.

Until Christmas Eve, Henry had no idea who Santa was.  But he helped us put out milk and cookies for Santa and we told him that Santa would bring presents after he went to sleep.  That was all it took.  The next morning he came downstairs, saw the tree, and said, “Santa came!”  Very cute.    We had a lot of fun opening presents, eating cookies, and enjoying the day together.  A very merry Christmas!  While the kids have spent the last few days playing with all of their new toys (in between visits to the doctor), Matt has been in the basement working on several small kitchen projects and now a new piece of furniture for the living room.  Stay tuned!

Update from the War on Poop

This really is all I ever write about, isn’t it? I’ll try to do better. But for now, an update. Because several of you got to suffer with Henry while he was at Grandma’s house before Christmas.

I took him to the pediatrician (a new one) on Tuesday and she sent us for an abdominal x-ray to find out if he might be constipated (just enough to partially block the exit, but not enough to do so completely). Henry was a real trooper and cooperated with everything they did. He was a great patient! Hopefully we’ll find out soon what the verdict is so we can get started on treating his issues.

I don’t know if any of the family was treated to Henry’s favorite “ABC’s” movie, but they tell this (really long, boring, and slightly creepy) story about Xavier the x-ray machine and a little boy getting an x-ray because of a sore tummy. I normally skip that one if I’m around and have to listen, but on Tuesday it actually came in handy. Go figure.

Did I mention that our afternoon that day also included a trip to the pharmacy? The real reason I ended up taking Henry in to the doctor that day was a mysterious rash (that turned out to be a strep infection). The rest of us appear to be fine, but he’s now on antibiotics. Who knows… maybe this will help clear up his poop problems, too.

And now… I think I’ve got a couple of diapers to change. I’ll be back later to do a Christmas post just to prove that I can update with something other than poop.

***And the verdict is: Constipation! Apparently his intestines have an abnormally large amount of stool and gas, so our next job is to get them cleaned out. Bring on the Miralax!
