The kids have a pool, Henry has an appropriate place to wear his “pretty dress,” and Lucy is clothed. I’m glad I went with the bigger size suit for Lucy last summer… I had to modify it to keep it on her last year, but I changed it back and it fits perfectly now! Special bonus points to Matt for carrying this pool home when we bought it on our walk through town this morning.

Heard from upstairs:
"Mommy, I put on a dress! It’s a very pretty dress!” (I’m cringing, but curious…)
Then he came downstairs. Wearing this:
It’s been hot around here lately. The kids have been enjoying splashing in this tub outside (while I sit in the air conditioned house watching through the kitchen window).
But today they both climbed in. I guess it’s time to get a swimming pool.
How cute are these little footprints?
After playing in the water for awhile, Henry noticed his wrinkled fingers:
"My fingers are sprinkly, Mommy!”

Friday Five
Oh, it’s Friday again. I knew I’d have a hard time keeping this up. But it may be the only way I ever get myself to update, so here we go:
1. We are eating pie for breakfast. It was supposed to be dessert last night, but I was nervous about the meringue (lemon meringue pie) so I conveniently “forgot” about it. Until this morning, when I had to have it. Kids’ verdict? Lucy likes the lemon part and is leaving the rest, Henry left the lemon part and is eating the rest. Maybe next time they can just split a piece. It tastes fine, but I might still need some help, Mom.
2. I just pulled my third tick off Henry this morning. If you ever come in our yard, please be warned. Also, does anyone have a favorite tick-repelling bug spray that is kid friendly?
3. Today is the first morning in a while that I haven’t felt like I was going to die when I got out of bed. I can breathe (mostly), my headache is manageable despite the fact that I’ve yet to have a chance to find the Tylenol this morning, and my head is a little less congested than it has been. Things are looking up, I think! Also, the kids seem to be feeling much better, just an occasional cough from Lucy.
4. Sometimes we set the coffee pot to start automatically the next morning. Very nice feature, but it can be alarming. Just now, I heard the sound of steam/water coming from the kitchen (no one was in there). I didn’t realize Matt had set it, so it was more than a little confusing before I figured out what was going on.
5. We’re headed into D.C. today with Matt’s brother Ben and his wife Jess. Should be a good time! We’re hoping the weather holds up. And that Henry can poop before we leave. Because, as always, the quality of my day is heavily influenced by the bowel movements of my child.

Friday Five
1. I am very ready to be done with this cold. I’m not sure where the kids picked this one up, but it’s been rough. For all of us except the Daddy, who’s been so busy with work and school that he’s managed to avoid the germs. At least for now.
2. Lucy loves hair stuff. Headbands, ponytail holders, clips… all of it. Special thanks to Aunt Jessica for feeding her addiction!
3. Anyone know how to prune roses? We’ve got lovely pink roses blooming right now and I want to make sure they keep blooming every year. How can I make sure this happens?
4. Here’s the picture we submitted with Henry’s preschool paperwork last week. His first school portrait? Sort of. He met one of his teachers for next year when we were there and was fascinated by her. Overheard today: “Hi, Teacher! Should we go to the church and see my Jesus?” (the preschool is at the church)
5. It’s ice cream season again! Or at least, ice cream cone season. I found these at the store this week. World’s tiniest ice cream cones (the cone is less than 2” tall). Perfect for little hands and also great for portion control (if I could just keep myself from eating more than one). So cute!

Found
Found tonight in the cracks of the couch (which became ours nearly 4 years ago and which we apparently never cleaned out):
- 4 pencils, 2 pens
- ruler
- large pair of scissors
- package from fingernail tattoos (sadly, it was empty)
- broken acrylic fingernail tip
- dried worm
- flosser (ok, that was Henry’s)
- remote control (from a Sony TV)
