A Beautiful Sunday Afternoon

bike trailer

We took the kids on a bike ride today!  I can’t even remember the last time I’ve ridden a bike more than a mile or two, yet alone with two kids in a trailer behind me.  But we had a fun time.  We rode on the bike trail (which was pretty crowded today since it has been a GORGEOUS weekend): 7 miles to Ashburn, where we had lunch, then I started back with the kids and we waited at a trailside park for Matt to come with the van (he had dropped it off to be looked at by a mechanic).  He took them the rest of the way home and I got to drive the van (for the first time).  I didn’t get any pictures of us, but there’s our trailer (just came in the mail yesterday!).

IMG_3028Here’s the van, peeking out from behind the tree in our front yard.  It’s a silver 2005 Dodge Caravan.  I’m not sure what the exact relationship is, but it seems awfully similar to the Plymouth Voyager we used to have (the Flemings, that is).  This one is definitely a newer generation, though.  Seats that fold down into the floor; sliding doors that open and close with a remote; sensors that warn me if I’m about to hit something behind me.  And unlike our other vehicles to date, this one will actually hold STUFF (lumber, furniture, luggage, etc.).  We’re very excited!

IMG_2089 And of course, today is Lucy’s 6 month birthday!  This little girl is full of smiles and giggles and is intent on growing up as quickly as possible.  She crawls (army style) all around the house, loves to play with all of Henry’s toys and eat food (she grabbed part of my PB&J sandwich the other and ate it without incident), and has moved into the crib in Henry’s room.  So far there haven’t been any incidents and they’re both handling the transition reasonably well (it helps that Lucy adores her big brother and is amused by all of his antics).  Her hair is lightening up, too… is she on her way to being a blondie like her brother?
