Potty Training Fail

A few days ago, we were out running errands when Henry told me he needed to go potty.  We were in a parking lot, Lucy had already fallen asleep in her carseat, and we were simply not going to go back into the store.  I told him he had to hold it or I’d make him pee in his sippy cup right there in the van.  He was a little upset about that and decided to wait until we got home.

Fast forward.

Several times in the last day or two, I’ve come across Henry peeing in a cup in the kitchen.  I guess he decided it was a pretty good way to take care of things after all.  At least he’s only peeing in his own cup.

They Said It

To Lucy at dinnertime:
Mom: Can you say “water?”
Dad: Wa-ter (clearly enunciated)
Lucy: Wa wer
Mom and Dad: Good job, Lucy!
Henry: No, it’s not wa-ter.  It’s wa-der

To Henry, after he took a couch pillow upstairs:
Mom: Henry, do you know where the couch pillow is?
Henry: (thinking) Well, I think it’s all gone.  I think it went in the river.

Opening an envelope:
Henry: I’m just looking to see if there’s a email inside.

To me, as I’m going to the bathroom:
Henry: Be careful, Mommy!  Don’t fall in the potty!

March Updates

IMG_3504Lucy is now one year old!  She is as charming as ever, except at bedtime and naptime when she is missing her pacifier.  Sorry, baby girl, the pacifiers are all gone.  Every day she learns new words and sounds, which is a lot of fun.  Her most communicative word?  Up!  Most charming word Henry has taught her?  Mine!  Cutest word?  Uh-oh!  She still loves ducks, but she also loves more huggable toys.  I took the kids to a consignment sale this past weekend and picked up a doll from the table.  Lucy immediately grabbed it and gave it a hug.  Baby doll came home with us (Lucy’s first doll!) and we’ve since clothed her and named her Baby Wendy.

Lucy still does not walk on her own, but every day she seems more and more ready to.  All of her (younger) friends are taking their first steps, so Lucy will have a little catching up to do once she decides to let go of Mommy’s hand.  I’m hoping that if I let her crawl around outside on the grass enough she’ll decide that walking is better.  Just kidding.  It wouldn’t have been a good plan anyway, since she loves getting dirty.  Good thing she likes bath time.

Henry is still TWO.  From the moment he woke up this morning to just before bed, he was singing/shouting “pamby pamby” and dancing around.  All day long.  I have no idea.  He is mostly potty trained, though we are still struggling with poop.  Sigh.  But otherwise he is more or less independent and stays dry overnight.  He recently learned to pee standing up, which is a good step as far as independence is concerned.  A very bad thing as far as my bathroom is concerned.  Oh well.  I am reasonably hopeful that we will be able to send him off to preschool in the fall without too much trouble.

imageHenry’s favorites these days are Thomas the Tank Engine and Bob the Builder.  We watch videos from the library and Henry knows just where to look find these ones.  He also loves books and could spend all day at the library if I let him.  Bob the Builder’s friend is named Wendy, by the way, which is where the name for Lucy’s doll came from.  Henry also found a Bob doll/stuffed thing at the same consignment sale, so we now have a Bob and a Baby Wendy added to our family.  So special.

It is spring here in Virginia.  There are daffodils blooming in front of our house, which is good.  It means that we didn’t manage to totally ruin the previous owners’ gardening through our neglect.  I also feel like I want to start a vegetable garden in the back yard.  There is a box already built that we can use as a raised bed, though I think it may take some work to get it ready.  Anyone want to come down and hold my hand while I get started?  At least I know where I can find one willing helper.

They Said It

A thunderstorm is rolling through town.  Henry is looking out the window and hears thunder.
H: What’s that, Mommy?
M: It’s a thunderstorm.  Did you see the lightning?
H: It’s actually a panda bear.
M: Really?  A panda bear?
H: Yeah.  It’s coming inside to play with us.

Updates

A few picture-related things to share.

1-Jessica alerted me to the fact that you can now download high resolution pictures from facebook (haha… where have I been?).  I think I found a way to upload my photos in high resolution without having to use the facebook uploader (yuck).  So in the coming months, you should be able to click on the ‘download’ button beneath any (new) photo and get a good copy of the picture.  If that doesn’t work, I’m still happy to send them individually.

2-I hadn’t been uploading any photos to Shutterfly in a while, but I am going to try to be better about doing this.  I have a family “share” site that I will be posting them on, so if you want to order prints directly from the website, you can.

3-I finished Lucy’s “baby book,” and it is shared on the same site.  Henry’s book is also there, if you never got to see that one.

4-Ok, the share site.  Here’s the address: http://thepannings.shutterfly.com/  It is not currently password-protected, but I may change that later.  If you want to receive updates via email, there is a link to “ask to become a member.”  Then you can set your email preferences accordingly.  At this point, I anticipate using the site primarily for sharing photos (most of which will already be on facebook).  But maybe I’ll use it for more later on.
